Award-winning pâtissier Julien Plumart sought to expand his business and enhance his online presence with a robust e-commerce website.

The primary goals were to introduce a mail-order macaron service and to introduce a click-and-collect service from his café in Brighton.

We began with an in-depth consultation with Julien to understand his vision, target audience, and specific requirements. Key insights included:

  • The importance of showcasing the artisanal quality of the macarons and pâtisserie items

  • A need for a visually stunning site that immediately captures attention

  • The requirement for a simple and efficient checkout process.

  • The necessity for a dual service offering: nationwide delivery for 'Macarons in the Mail' and local click-and-collect from the Brighton café

We conducted market research to analyse competitors and identify best practices in the luxury confectionery e-commerce space which informed our design and functionality decisions to ensure Julien Plumart’s website stood out

At the heart of Julien’s proposition was a service that allowed customers outside of the Brighton area to enjoy Julien’s award-winning macarons through a service we called ‘Macarons in the Mail”.

Julien was keen to give customers the opportunity to make their own selection of macaron flavours in the box rather than having to choose from pre-selected flavour combinations. To achieve this, we used a third-party bundle builder app which integrated into the Shopify ecosystem which also had functionality for Julien’s team to add and remove flavours from the selection on offer.

As part of the project process, we created wireframes for the key pages, including the homepage, product pages, and checkout process. These wireframes were transformed into high-fidelity designs, reflecting the elegance and luxury of Julien Plumart's brand. Key design elements included:

  • Homepage: A visually rich homepage featuring high-quality images of the macarons and pâtisserie items, coupled with on brand colour palette and typography and simple navigation to the two key order types.

  • Product Pages: Detailed product pages with high-resolution images, descriptive texts, alegen information and easy navigation. Some products required options to be available such cake sizes, cake personalised messages and favour choices.

  • User Interface (UI): A clean and intuitive UI that guides users seamlessly through the shopping experience.

  • Photography: We provided art direction for the product and creative photography which was brilliantly executed
    by Veega Studios.
