Bayon Bakery

BAKERY BRANDING, BRIGHTON & HOVE, UK

Bayon is a new bakery created by Amber Sterck and is her second concept after launching the very popular Oeuf Cafe in Hove.

Located close to Hove Station, Bayon is a traditional bakery where everything is baked fresh on-site daily. It also offers a relaxed environment where guests can enjoy high-quality patisseries, loaded sandwiches, speciality doughnuts and delicious coffee made using their own, bespoke Bayon blend.

Amber grew up in the local area and had a dream since childhood to open her own bakery in the exact location where Bayon now sits.

Her local knowledge was hugely beneficial when we undertook the task of establishing the brands position as she was familiar with the competition and knew her target market extremely well. She also felt a strong connection to the local community and was passionate that locals would be able to develop a similar connection with Bayon.

Amber felt that simplicity would be the key to Bayon’s success and was uncompromising in her desire to deliver an excellent experience for her customers in terms of products and service. The bakery interior has a clean and unfussy feel with a sensitive touch and a playful, day-dreamy charm.

At its heart, Bayon bakery is all about Simple Pleasure, Done Well.

When we began work on the project, the look and feel for the interior of the bakery had largely been established in terms of colour and materials, and some work had also been done by the client around the direction of the identity.

We developed these ideas into a script logo type and icon. We made variations of the logo so it could be used across a range of applications including signage, uniforms, tote bags and on smaller items like loyalty card stamps and key rings.  We also extended the identity to include a hand illustrated icon set of the bakery products.

We created promotional postcards to be distributed to the local neighbourhood residents and businesses.

To help drive engagement around the promotion, we drew a range of unique and charming hand drawn illustrations that were presented with a short narrative. The illustrations were inspired by the nearby Hove Park and shows locals enjoying simple pleasures like walking the dog, jogging and children jumping in puddles.

The consistent use of line weight and colour meant it was easy to tie the promotion directly back to the bakery identity, whilst hopefully delivering a nice ‘smile in the mind’ for the viewer.
