THEATRE BRANDING, BRIGHTON AND HOVE, U.K.
2024 sees the completion of renovations at the Theatre Royal Brighton. The works included refurbishment of the auditorium and public common areas within the theatre as well as complete restoration to the listed fascia. The theatre’s owner, ATG commissioned Good Noise to create a new identity to support the relaunch of the newly refurbished theatre.

The Theatre Royal Brighton is one of the oldest and most distinguished Theatres in the UK. Our brief was to create an identity that would be applied across all communication and advertising channels. We worked with the theatres team to understand the challenges faced with the existing identity and to gain insight into the theatre’s unique brand position. This involved a hosting number of workshops to discuss the competition and target demographic and define the brand unique DNA.
The team felt the existing logo didn’t properly represent the Theatre and Brighton as a whole and found it difficult to apply across a variety of applications including digital and social media. Our challenge was to create a new logo that would excite, inspire and create intrigue whilst respecting the theatres heritage and ultimately deliver a logo to be proud of.
The theatre is home to a wealth of historic design including hundreds of playbill posters. Over time the theatre’s identity had undergone a number of transformations. We were drawn to the bold woodblock type which had been used on the bill posters from the 1920’s.
We adopted a similar typeface and colours which complimented the theatre’s interior decor for the basis of our logo and added ‘cuts' across the face of the letters and then purposely misaligned the sections to represent a stage curtain, adding a sense of movement and anticipation.

We also created animations which could be used across digital advertising screens across the city and beyond. The animation had to remain true to the logos original form whilst being able to showcase a number of different shows and events.
We created a template that could be updated by the in-house team to swap out the promotion that would be revealed by the curtain. As well as being featured across a number of different advertising screens, the animations could also be used on smaller screens and social media.
